Taylor Russolino Deserves a Shot At The NFL

Taylor Russolino has had a remarkable and diverse career in professional football.

His journey began in 2013 when he signed his first professional contract with the Marion Blue Racers of the Continental Indoor Football League. He later joined the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League in 2014, where he played in three games and demonstrated his potential as a kicker.

In 2016, Russolino signed with the Spokane Empire of the Indoor Football League before getting drafted by the Shanghai Skywalkers in the China Arena Football League draft. During his time in China, he earned recognition as one of the All-Pro South Division All-Stars and became a part of the CAFL Fan’s Dream Team.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) saw Russolino’s talents in 2017 when he signed with the Montreal Alouettes as a replacement for their injured kicker. Despite playing only two games, he showed his versatility by handling both punting and field goal duties.

In 2019, Russolino joined the BC Lions during training camp but was later released. However, it was his stint with the St. Louis BattleHawks in the XFL that brought him significant attention. Notably, he set an XFL record for the longest-made field goal with an impressive 58-yard kick.

The NFL came calling when Russolino was signed to the Denver Broncos’ practice squad in late 2020. He received praise from former punter and XFL broadcaster Pat McAfee, who recommended him to the Broncos’ special teams coordinator. Russolino briefly made it to the active roster during the 2020 season, showcasing his potential on a bigger stage.

In 2022, Russolino’s journey came full circle when he was drafted by the Arlington Renegades of the XFL, giving him another opportunity to prove his abilities in professional football. On a championship team, he finished the season 10-16 (84.2 FG%), going 100% for XP, and kicking 2-3 above 50+ including a 56-yard field goal.
