Satou Sabally’s 40 Points Helps Dallas Wings Earn Win Number 20, Clinch Playoff Spot

Thanks to the performance of Satou Sabally, the Dallas Wings pick up a 110-100 win over the Indiana Fever to clinch a playoff spot.

After dealing with an ankle injury the last two games, Satou Sabally returned with vengeance for the Wings in a big way with scoring 40 points. Sabally shot 13 of 19 from the floor including seven three pointers made. She also added seven rebounds and four assists in the win.

All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale scored 25 points, 3 assists, and two steals in the game. Ogunbowale set a single-season franchise record in points as she has 757 points this season.

Awak Kuier has been impressive with more playing time due to Sabally’s injured as she scored ten points, six rebounds, and two assists in 13 minutes off the bench. Despite just two points, Veronica Burton had a stellar performance leading the team with seven rebounds and eight assists while adding two steals.

For the Dallas Wings, they continue to make franchise history as they get win number 20 for the first time since moving to Dallas. They also clinch a playoff spot and will have home court advantage in the first round of the WNBA playoffs for the first time.

Only four games remain on the schedule for the Wings as they play Indiana again on Sunday. They have three straight home games against the Fever, New York Liberty, and Seattle Storm. Dallas closes their season on the road against the Atlanta Dream.

An impressive season continues for the Wings as first-year head coach Latricia Trammell has helped this team progress to new heights. This has the feels of a team that finally took the next step. After multiple years of first round exits, it now seems they are set up for a playoff run.

Dallas sits second in the Western Conference where all roads appear to have to go through the Las Vegas Aces to make the WNBA Finals. That’s a thought for later as the Wings are focused on finishing the season and moving past the first round of the playoffs.

With Sabally staying mostly healthy, Ogunbowale being an elite scorer, and Natasha Howard being a do-it-all athlete, this Wings team is different from previous years. This is a team that could make a run in the playoffs in 2023.
