Despite their Game 1 loss and dealing with key injuries, FC Dallas’ offense came alive with a 3-1 win in Frisco, Texas over the Seattle Sounders to even the series at 1-1.
FC Dallas started fast with Paul Arriola starting the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute to put them up early 1-0. Then a Seattle penalty in the box resulted in the reliable scorer Jesus Ferreira scoring on a penalty kick to put FC Dallas up 2-0.
The Sounders started the second half quick this time around as Jordan Morris scores a goal in the 48th minute as FC Dallas led 2-1. Seattle’s offense control the ball for most of the second half, but it was Jader Obrian who put the game away for FC Dallas with a goal in the 89th minute to seal the 3-1 win.
Seattle had plenty of opportunities for goals throughout the game with 11 shots and five shots being on goal. They controlled the ball 61.7 percent of the time.
For FC Dallas, the offense may not have gotten a lot of possession time with the ball, but they were able to take advantage of the shots they had. This is something that wasn’t seen too often during the regular season. Eight total shots for FC Dallas with three of the being on goal.
A tip to the hat must go to FC Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes who had three saves in the win. Paes continues to impress in front of the net helping the defense with allowing just one goal.
After the unfortunate news of Alan Velasco having a torn ACL and being gone for the season, it was about seeing who can step up for FC Dallas. Ferreira got his first goal in seven games which is his longest drought of the season. Obrian came off the bench and was able to ignite a spark in the offense in the second half. All season, Bernard Kamungo has proven to be one of the top young players on the roster as he was able to set up easy goals for FC Dallas.
The series now comes down to a Game 3 showdown between FC Dallas and Seattle on Friday in Seattle at Lumen Field. Whoever wins the game will face the winner of the LAFC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC series.
