The Dobbins Report – 10/26/18

I’m Tiera Dobbins, N The Zone Network‘s newest NFL contributor, and I want to welcome you to the first edition of “The Dobbins Report.” This week let’s focus on the AFC North.

The Cleveland Browns have gone into 4 overtimes in the last 6 weeks and Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker missed his first PAT in his career, it is spooky times in the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers enjoyed their Bye week during Week 7 and due to losses of their divisional foes came out on top of the AFC North.

Although LeVeon Bell is still a no-show, the Steelers are now sitting at #1 in arguably the toughest division in football.

Week 7 is now behind us and Week 8 started last night with a somewhat interesting matchup, but finally, Brocktober is almost over! Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans had a field day with the Miami Dolphins defense. Watson threw for 5 touchdowns in their 43-23 win over the Dolphins.  Though the Texans won their fifth consecutive game, Texans WR Will Fuller tore his ACL.

So, for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Steeler Nation there are two questions: Can the Steelers remain in the #1 spot? And Where is LeVeon? The most important question is, can the Steelers remain leading the AFC North?

In Week 8, the Steelers will face the Cleveland Browns. Another tough AFC North matchup for some diehard fans. These two teams have met for their Week 1 opener the last few years and whether they meet in Heinz Field or First Energy Stadium the black and gold usually comes out victorious. Their meetup in September, both teams somewhat wrapped up Week 1 both victorious… kind of. Browns and Steelers ended regular overtime tied 21-21, now week 8 is here and it’s time to make this division even more interesting.

Le’Veon Bell

Since Week 1 one thing has remained the same and that is there is still no Le’Veon Bell. But Pittsburgh has been doing just fine with running back James Connor surprising not just the NFL but his own team; even getting a shout out from Bell after the Steelers 28-21 defeat over the Cincinnati Bengals.

As for the Browns in Week 1, Tyrod Taylor started as QB against the Steelers defense, but now we have Baker Mayfield bringing the spark the Browns have needed.

This 1:00 p.m. matchup will be another great game to grab a Pumpkin Beer or an IPA to see how the cards fall in this AFC North Matchup! Maybe Le’Veon will be doing the same.

N The Zone SEASON 4: Tiera Dobbins 10-21-18

THE A-TRAIN RANT 7.0!!!

THIS A-TRAIN RANT IS SPONSORED BY…

THE ANGRY REDBIRD!

  1. Peyton Manning is the best QB of all-time…the hell with Brett Favre. After a comeback like that with a not so great team. He can damn near do anything.
  2. Matt Holliday, Jon Jay and Yadier Molina need to learn how to hit in the playoffs. A few instructional videos with Fred McGriff shouldn’t hurt. Don’t act like you don’t remember those.
  3. Jeff Fisher did a good thing on Sunday with Greg The Leg, trying for him to kick a (would have been record) 66-yard field goal. If he knows he can kick, what the hell else do you supposed to do on 4th down.
  4. Speaking of that Rams game, Sam Bradford needs to learn the 2-minute drill, and when to throw the football IMMEDIATELY. It costs the Rams a much needed road win.
  5. The Rams should be at least 5-1. YEAH, I SAID IT. Detroit and Miami should have been road wins. Unclear about that Chicago game but at least they should have been in the lead for those games. Tough breaks in those losses.
  6. Who in the hell is this Richard Sherman guy from Seattle? For a guy who hasn’t seen a postseason yet, he sure thinks he  has the right to go tell off to a Super Bowl-winning QB that he is better than him. Get a championship first, then talk trash. Learn something from Gary Payton, even if it means going to another team to get it.
  7. Speaking of RGIII…I think he is finally learning what the NFL is like. After a mild concussion last week…Dude, they are just getting started with you.
  8. Speaking of Washington D.C., the Washington Nationals front office do not want to win any championships. If that’s the case, they should all be fired. NEXT SEASON!!
  9. The San Francisco Giants are no punks, they got to the NLCS for a reason. This is about to be (hopefully) a great NLCS, funny though how 2 things surface from this matchup. 1) 25 years ago, these two teams played to a thrilling 7-game series with the Cardinals, with the Cardinals winning that before losing to the Minnesota Twins in the Fall Classic. 2) These 2 teams are the last 2 champions, interesting to see who gets there again.
  10. NBA season is around the corner, NHL season is down in the dumps. Last year, it was the other way around.
  11. I don’t feel sorry for the New York Yankees. I’m a long-time hater and I don’t care. Feel sorry for Derek Jeter though. Looks like (as a friend put it) BALCO East needs to break out the juice for another comeback.
  12. The New York Giants are the best team in the NFC, until someone knocks them off, no one else is better. PERIOD. Just ask the San Francisco 49ers.
  13. Back to the Rams…they scored more points the 49ers did. Take that San Fran!
  14. Philip Rivers and Tony Romo are the same people…Yet, I think both are trying to fire their offensive head coaches. Shame on you!
  15. I’ll miss Ray Lewis…that man is cursed. He got in that Madden game again and now he won’t even play the rest of the season. I hope it’s not the last one. If so, this is a bad way to go out. Very bad way.
  16. I got at least 1 win in fantasy football this week, and that I didn’t have a full team with that.

Coming up, a Q/A interview with author Allen Schatz and hopefully get one of the ladies from the Lingerie Football League’s St. Louis Saints.

Stay tuned.

THE A-TRAIN RANT 5.0!

After letting a week go by without doing my rant…I actually have one in me.

So……

  1. Shoutout to all the referees getting their jobs back and their deals were worked out. Let’s see how long it takes before fans are ready to lynch them all over again and be like…”Bring back the replacement refs.” Don’t tell that to a Packers fan though. *Smiles*
  2. Sunday was a good day for a St. Louis sports fan…Cardinals and Rams won. Any hope for the Blues though?
  3. About those Cardinals, despite the fact they won 2 out of 3 games against the Washington Nationals, I’m still ticked off about the decision made to pitch to red-hot Kurt Suzuki in the extra-inning affair of the 2nd game (Cardinals lost). Can’t do that come playoff time.
  4. Missouri beat Central Florida…big whoop. Alabama is next for them. I’ll let you figure that result.
  5. Speaking of the Rams, the defense is awesome. Amazing how, in the game against the Seahawks…defense and special teams scored all of their points. Offense scored zero. No TDs. That’s a problem and you got to lace them back up again on Thursday night against a re-surged (at least what we know of) Arizona squad (who just beat Miami in OT).
  6. The Kansas City Chiefs suck. The game against New Orleans was a fluke. Where’s Bob Fescoe (of 610 Sports Radio in KC) and his rant now? I’ll wait.
  7. NBA season is around the corner and so is NBA 2K13 (coming Oct. 2nd)
  8. (Even though I don’t like the team) Shoutout to Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds, pitching baseball’s 7th no-hitter of the season. Damn, should we check pitchers for steroids now?
  9. Hockey season here yet? Hockey fans just suck it up and watch the NBA. Sorry.
  10. Kevin Garnett needs to retire from basketball if he’s going to act like an ex-wife. “Me and Ray Allen are not speaking to each other.” What the green and orange hell?
  11. I agree with Bomani Jones, Rasheed Wallace needs to coach. He gets his head on straight (pure longshot), I think he could do an awesome job. I don’t think he needs to play anymore. If you look at ‘Sheed, he could have been a dominate force in his career. DOMINANT. Awesome shooter, good post moves, and play crazy good defense. Maybe that was just with Detroit…but he was good though.
  12. Tiger Woods was the real reason that the US lost the Ryder Cup…nobody will really say that though. But I will. Hell, I like Tiger.
  13. Somewhere a Drew Brees hater is laughing his ass off. Saints now 0-4 after losing by 1 to the Packers.
  14. The NFC West is the best division in the NFL. Take that, NFL! Since the new alignment in 2002, I think this is the 1st time that this division has all of their teams at .500 or better.
  15. Cam Newton and the Panthers defense…YOU ARE THE “N THE ZONE” IDIOTS OF THE WEEK! Cam, if you’re going to do an ATL dance…do it after the game when you win. Panthers defense…learn the prevent defense.

I’m done. Not as big as I hoped. It’s all good though.

Thanks again to Nadine Liverpool (of SportsNAYtion) for that wonderful interview. Coming up, I’ll have author Allen Schatz with and discuss some of his baseball writings. Plus, looking forward to hopefully interviewing Jay Randolph, Jr. and Sara Bruce of the St. Louis sports radio show, “The Big Phat Sports Show.”

Stay tuned.

Engine Joe Says…

And now I present to YOU the fans, an illustrious gentleman who I have known for about 18 years now and he definitely gets his point across the best way possible. If you can’t understand what he says, you never will. This is all from his mind, his heart and his writing. Ladies and gents, I present to YOU…ENGINE JOE with “Engine Joe Says!”

On First Take yesterday, Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless virtually echoed my sentiments on the Chad Johnson scenario that I shared with Blaqk Walker via text. From Chad’s stainless NFL track record in off the field conduct, his good character and volatility in his brief, whirlwind marriage with his in well-spirited, in-your-face, neck rolling, finger-popping, knock a b*%#h out, at times antagonistic, flame- spitting Basketball Wives star Evelyn. As, well as the impetuousness of Dolphins coach Joe Philbin pink slipping Chad without ascertaining all the facts to corroborate if the abuse allegations against Chad are true.

I get why Philbin did what he did. Miami is coming off an awful, trashbag season and he’s trying to change the culture of the team. The Dolphins also have some impressionable young players too who I’m sure Philbin doesn’t want contaminated. However, it’s painfully obvious Philbin doesn’t like Chad and had it in for the six-time Pro Bowler from genesis.

While it’s an egregious allegation that should be taken seriously I still think it was kind of premature, reactionary suckboy move and unprofessional by Philbin to not at least give Chad the chance to explicate himself before releasing him. Yes, Chad has a prior domestic abuse offense for which he had to go to anger management in college. However, that was 12 years ago and there will be no other assault incidents. It’s a major deviation from his character. None of us were there and it’s a classic he said, she said situation. However, Philbin could have at least waited for the specifics to be released to either validate Evelyn’s claims or exonerate Chad of the charges. Philbin is already starting to receive some backlash from his vets on his team like Karlos Dansby.

Hopefully Chad gets swooped up by some organization and has the opportunity to revitalize his career with singular focus, motivation and devotion.

But when it comes to domestic disputes that escalate and get too animus and contentious and border on the edge of physicality, my motto as a dude is one thing: GET THE HELL OUTTA THERE!!! Nothing good can ever come out of hostile war of words that becomes physical for a man. I never espouse a man putting his hands on a woman outside of physical endangerment in which serious injury, a man’s life is at risk, or mortal injury could occur.

Outside of that extreme scenario, it’s cowardly, hoe-poppish, inexplicable and unacceptable under any circumstances for a man to assault or whoop a woman’s head. Which is why as a man if you see it getting to the point where a prizefight could crack off you have to have the foresight and be cognizant enough to get da hell outta there before it happens. EVEN IF YOU ARE INNOCENT!! The invariable ending to that scenario every time is a dude walking with his head down and hands behind his back in cuffs being escorted to the police squad car. Whenever a spat gets that heated don’t imperil yourself. Do like Ghostface Killah said and “RUN! BUCK THAT! RUN! COPS GOT GUNZ!!! Trill words, dunny.

ENGINE JOE
