Time for the 14th edition of The A-Train Rant…hope your sports weekend was good, here at A-Train’s home…umm hell no.

That’s why I’m hear to rant about it…enjoy.

PRE-RANT: I always look forward to what Kevin Slaten has to say about Missouri sports…ALWAYS. Some things I like, others I don’t. He can be sane, he can be crazy. He’s entertaining. He makes sure you have something to say (if you listen to him). Check out “Slaten Unleashed” on TalkSTL.com every weekday from 3pm-6pm. Sometimes it’s good to be antagonizing, other times not. Still a sight to see each weekday afternoon.

  1. I’m cheering for Florida State in the national championship. Auburn did what they had to do in the SEC title game but I’m going against them.
  2. Welcome back, Kobe Bryant. Am I being nice to Jellybean? In this case, yes. Just hope it doesn’t bite him in his ass making this triumphant return and winds up going back on the shelf.
  3. Speaking of injuries, I would be happy that Rob Gronkowski got hurt…but I can’t. The reason is because you’re seeing a long trend of top players get hurt. I understand football players take pain and so do other athletes, but when is it smart to comeback and play again?
  4. I had no idea that baseball managers could get in the Hall of Fame so easily…Tony LaRussa, Joe Torre, and Bobby Cox are in.
  5. I guess I’m supposed to be thrilled for the Lambs (yeah I called them that) right now. Thanks to a friend, I understand Jeff Fisher. He has no control of his damn team. Several games this season, this bum ass team decides they want to fight their opposition. FOR WHAT? Is that supposed to fire up the team? In at least 4 of the games I saw they got in fights and grabbed a plethora of penalties. No control whatsoever. NONE. I understand this team has no QB, yeah no quarterback and I guess those draft picks are looking nicer every day. Thanks Washington.
  6. Mizzou football will be in great shape, the day they get a different coach. Pinkel can’t win big games. He sucks bad. Last 2 conference championship games he’s been in, he gets smoked. Then has no idea how that ever happened. However, Mizzou had an unforgettable season, can’t take away what they did.
  7. Speaking of Mizzou, shoutout to CBS Sports for having a Mizzou Saturday…great win for the Men’s program beating 18th-ranked UCLA.
  8. Cano and Ellsbury got paid. I still hate Cano.
  9. Good bye, Roy Halladay. Halladay announced his retirement after 16 seasons. I will never forget his 2010 season, Halladay threw a perfect game and then a no-hitter in the postseason. Shame he didn’t get a ring while in Philly. He had no chance in Toronto. NONE.
  10. The death of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling is near, they lost their biggest acquisition in AJ Styles.
  11. Please Daniel Snyder, do us all a favor and put Mike Shanahan out of his misery.
  12. Rudy Gay going to the Sacramento Kings does nothing for them. You got a bighead jackass in DeMarcus Cousins. Unless both can work together as a tandem, I don’t think it will work out in Sac-town.
  13. The Super Bowl being in New York City is hilarious…you asked for this one. “Cold weather is where the game is supposed to be.” Because of this, now you have restrictions. No tailgate parties at Meadowlands Stadium. Enjoy.
  14. Keith Olbermann (whom I have caused a response with on Twitter) had this to say about cheating. I hear a lot about it. Shoutout to Solomon Alexander for this but it’s great. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5N1XoJq_fk

That’s all I can think of for now.

More to come.

The A-Train Rant 13.0!

It’s the weekend and I have some things that need to be said…

  1. Jason Kidd coaching the Brooklyn Nets is like Whoopi Goldberg’s character Eddie coaching the New York Knicks…it’s a joke.
  2. Chris Petersen is a great hire for Washington, he’ll start stealing those Pac-12 recruits from USC, UCLA and Oregon.
  3. Might have to start watching the 2014 World Cup, if not, I should start playing FIFA.
  4. Maybe Jay-Z is a smart guy after all. Kudos to him netting former New York Yankees 2nd baseman Robinson Cano a $240 million deal with the Seattle Mariners. Maybe Cano might humble himself after all in a new uniform. Then again, it’s Robinson Cano. Shoutout to Stephen A. Smith for calling out the Yankees on First Take. (NOTE: I rarely watch that show)
  5. Watched Bulls/Heat last night…I guess it’s one of those times the Heat plays like crapola before turning it up in the month of April.
  6. I really want Mizzou to win the SEC Championship just to see how screwy the BCS gang will be towards them.
  7. Curtis Granderson got $60 million from the New York Mets…Hey Mets management, how did that deal with Jason Bay work out? Curt, make your money! If you screw the Mets, I love every minute of it.
  8. Gary Kubiak getting fired from the Houston Texans was understandable, but don’t fire the man when he just got off a stroke. I don’t care how big or how small it was. Damn. I guess 11 straight losses made sure he got that ax quick.
  9. To the gamer who cussed during the middle of a game on NBA 2K14…do that again, it was hilarious.
  10. I want to see how the Downtown Athletic Club treats Jameis Winston now that he is not charged…My race card is ready to pulled if he doesn’t win the Heisman. He’s the favorite. Johnny Manziel and A.J. McCarron can both go to hell.
  11. I actually miss Lovie Smith. It’s time for him to get back in the saddle as head coach for a team…maybe the Houston Texans come to mind. I don’t know.
  12. I would actually laugh if the Miami Heat trade Dwyane Wade.
  13. What was the point of the Indianapolis Colts getting Trent Richardson? I’ll leave that for YOU to answer.
  14. DeMarcus Cousins should have no reason saying anything about anybody. You play for the Sacramento Kings dude, the Kings.
  15. What happened to the St. Louis Blues? Please EA, be correct on this prediction.
  16. So…is Kobe coming back?

That will wrap up this rant for today. More to come. Make sure you tune in to “Beyond The Ropes” on Youtube, comes on every Monday night after Raw. It’s LIVE and you can chat with the crew.

N The Zone TV is coming soon. You don’t want to miss that either.

A Few Questions…with Sarah Estopare

IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF “A Few Questions…” and on this edition, I want to introduce a young woman, born and raised in St. Louis, gearing up to become one of the first quarterbacks for the brand new expansion St. Louis Saints of the Lingerie Football League. She is Sarah Estopare (ES-TOE-PAR-AY).

A-TRAIN: How are you doing today?

SARAH: I’m doing great!

A-TRAIN: How long have you been a football fan?

SARAH: For as long as I can remember – Watching the Sunday games with my dad and little brother and learning from them are always some of my favorite memories!

A-TRAIN: Very interesting. How did you learn of the Lingerie Football League?

SARAH: I saw the first game I ever watched on MTV2 and thought to myself, “I need to be doing that.”

A-TRAIN: Is that so…well, stated that you are a QB, what have you learned so far playing the position?

SARAH: I’ve learned that you’re the leader out there and you control the momentum of the game. It’s one of the coolest, yet challenging positions I’ve ever played.

A-TRAIN: You think you got a better arm than (St. Louis Rams QB) Sam Bradford?

SARAH: Haha, not sure about that, but I can hold my own!and I love it!

A-TRAIN: How will you feel when you walk out on the field for the very first game?

SARAH: I think I’ll feel everything that I’ve been working for, hardwork, dedication, pain all coming together at once and it will be one of the coolest feelings ever. It’ll give me goosebumps!

A-TRAIN: How about when you know that you will be on TV?

SARAH: That’s just a bonus! I’ll take it!

A-TRAIN: What is your goal with the League?

SARAH: To win games and head to that All Star Game to rep my state!

A-TRAIN: Alright, so the important question is…NFL or LFL?

SARAH: I’ll be honest with you – NFL. I like watching the pro QB’s do their thing.

A-TRAIN: Wow! Any other sports you like?

SARAH: BASEBALL!!!

A-TRAIN: Is this what you watch the most?

SARAH: Baseball is a huge passion of mine.

A-TRAIN: Are you single?

SARAH: I am single at the moment.

A-TRAIN: I’ll leave that alone. (Looks away) So, do you like your hometown teams?

SARAH: I love my hometown teams – Cards, Blues and Rams…but I love the New York Yankees – so much history and culture behind the team!

A-TRAIN: YANKEES???  I think I want to vomit. Just kidding. But are your favorite athletes?

SARAH: I got a few: Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, Tom Brady, David Freese, Ray Lewis, and Kobe Bryant.

A-TRAIN: Top 5 artists that you are listening to?

SARAH: Tough question, as I love my music! Huge country fan… Lady Antebellum, Kenny Chesney, when I’m not listening to country..Al Green, Mariah Carey and Chicago.

A-TRAIN: Interesting choices. Top 5 TV shows you watch?

SARAH: I’m mainly watching sports, ESPN, but I’ll still watch the old sitcoms like Friends, which is my favorite show, as far as reality tv goes, I like Khloe and Lamar.

(A-TRAIN screams in terror)

A-TRAIN: Ok, any shoutouts that you want to give out?

SARAH: A tremendous shoutout to my amazing family – Mom, Dad, Maggie and Tommy you guys are the greatest. My grandparents, my best friend Falon and all of my guy friends out there!

A-TRAIN: I know you’re doing social media…where can they follow you?

SARAH: @SarahEstopare on Twitter and Sarah Estopare LFL Facebook page.

A-TRAIN: Thanks for taking some time out for this interview.

SARAH: Thanks so much for doing this!

A-TRAIN: You bet. I wish nothing but the best of luck to you and your brand new team.

SARAH: I appreciate that!

A-TRAIN: I will be watching you on TV, without a doubt. Low key, I like the LFL! And that was Sarah Estopare, QB of the St. Louis Saints you can catch her next season, and if you miss the games, you can watch them on MTV2, more to come! A-Train’s 2012 MLB All Stars…Part 2

Alright, I gave you last night. Here is part 2, now with the American League All-Stars for manager Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers.

NOTE: All stats are up to date as of 6/28/2012

Catcher – Joe Mauer (Twins) – I don’t see too many people other than Mauer (maybe Mike Napoli of the Rangers) to be starting the game here. The guy is still an amazing hitter batting .321, of course the home runs are down (3) but he’s still worthy of an all-star berth despite his Twins being in last place in the AL Central. I would be surprised if Mauer is not the starter in KC.

1st Base – Prince Fielder (Tigers) – I smell the arguments of this pick heavily because Paul Kornerko (White Sox) is probably the best 1st baseman in the American League. Plus he is also on a 1st place team but I still dig Fielder’s numbers (.301 AVG, 12 HR, 50 RBI) and he’s still solid despite the Tigers being in 3rd place. I mean Albert could make some noise to get in the game. I hope so. But not to start the game. I choose the Prince of Detroit here.

2nd Base – Robinson Cano (Yankees) – What can I say? Another awesome season for Cano and he’s clearly the favorite for the start here.  How do you past up his .308 AVG, 18 HR and 41 RBI? You can’t. Unless you’re a hater of the Yankees. I choose Cano.

Shortstop – Derek Jeter (Yankees) – This may be the last hurrah for Derek Jeter but he’s still one of the best players to ever put on a Yankee uniform and it will continue as he makes another All-Star appearance. Even though the numbers don’t seem to be all-star worthy (.305 AVG, 7 HR, 25 RBI)…fans and haters alike can’t help but respect Jeter’s game. He’ll be at the #6 position in KC.

3rd Base – Miguel Cabrera (Tigers) – Cabrera is still one of the best hitters in the game of baseball today. Despite moving back to the third to make room for Fielder, he’s still solid (.304 AVG, 15 HR and 60 RBI). On the verge to another .300/30/100 season, Cabrera is a fan favorite and should be playing at third come that Tuesday night.

Outfielder – Jose Bautista (Blue Jays) – Two-time home run champ finds himself in the lead again (with 25) in that category but also has a paltry .237 average to go along with that. He will still find his way into the outfield in KC because of that home run power. Even though I really don’t dig an all-star who bats under .260 to get in the game, there is no other outfielder (other than Josh Hamilton) that has come close to the kind of power numbers that Bautista has. So I will have to give him this one.

Outfielder – Josh Hamilton (Rangers) – Despite his shortcomings, Hamilton still knows how to put a show for the fans and he’ll be in KC to start for the All-Star game. The AL leader in RBI with 67, slugging a league best .647, in addition to tied for the AL lead in HR with 24 showcases that he is a true and definite all-star selection by the fans.

Outfielder – Adam Jones (Orioles) – He is one of my favorites, I enjoyed playing with him on MLB: The Show on PS2 (I have upgraded since then) because he’s (IMHO) a dynamic player and future superstar and I believe that his time is now to soak in being an all-star. I would be very upset if he doesn’t start the game. An all-star back in 2009, the 26-year old Jones is indeed having one of his best seasons (.299 AVG, 19 HR and 41 RBI) and should see another all-star berth for the emerging, young and talented Baltimore Orioles.

Designated Hitter – David Ortiz (Red Sox) – I would be shocked if Adam Dunn (White Sox) is the starter here, even though he has 24 home runs (which is tied for 2nd in the American League with Hamilton), he also has that .216 average and that is not acceptable to start in the game. Really I think he’s going to be snubbed of being on the roster. Sorry. I dig Ortiz’s numbers (.309, 21 HR, 53 RBI) and he should get the nod. I think the Manager Ron will choose Edwin Encarnacion will back up Ortiz…this is a breakout season for him (22 HR, 54 RBI with a .286 average)

Those are the choices. Good luck to the rest of the all-star selections even if some of mine don’t make the team. I’ll be surprised to get 2/3 of both teams right. But here are mine. Check them out. Debate about them. That’s what they are there for. Have fun.

Hope you enjoy the All-Star Game on July 10th. One day before the birthday!!!
