Dallas Wings defeat Indiana Fever 79-76; Jaelyn Brown stars!

By: Jonah Lewis

The Dallas Wings came to play in their lone pre season game against the Indiana Fever, pulling out a last second victory on a Arike Ogunbowale step back 3 over Lexie Hull!

All eyes were on the Dallas Wings and the Indiana Fever as Caitlin Clark, the 2024 WNBA no. 1 draft pick, made her unofficial debut. Despite Clark leading the Fever with 21 points, the combined efforts of Arike Ogunbowale with 19 points and Jaelyn Brown with a team-high 21 points for the Dallas Wings proved too formidable to defeat.

Jaelyn Brown was signed by the Dallas Wings on a training camp contract on Feb. 20, 2024. Despite going un- drafted from California-Berkeley in 2020, she gained valuable experience playing overseas in France, Mexico, Hungary, and Sweden. The preseason provides an opportunity for players on training camp contracts to showcase their skills and prove they belong in the WNBA.

Jaelyn Brown may have been relatively unknown to many fans prior to her standout performance against the Fever, but she has certainly made a name for herself now. Jaelyn had a coming-out party, tallying 21 points on 7-15 field goals, a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line, 5 rebounds, and shot an outstanding 46.7% from the field. Beyond the statistics, Jaelyn displayed a high basketball IQ throughout her 30 minutes on the court. She exhibited fearlessness in shooting and driving to the rim, hustling for rebounds, and giving her all on the defensive end, all while only accumulating just one turnover.

We won’t know who makes the Dallas Wings’ opening day roster until they post that news themselves, but I believe after Jaelyn’s impressive performance, it would be a no-brainer to ensure she has a role on the team come the start of the Wings regular season campaign starting on May 15th at home against the Chicago Sky!
